Chemicals
Coal is the main fossil energy source to China, a country short in oil reserves, lacking in gas but rich in coal. With the sustained and rapid development of society and economy and in the background of daily urgent demand for substituting chemical raw materials and energy and for energy-saving and emission reduction, coal chemical products made with clean coal technologies are not only of lower cost, but also have major significance to mitigating the environment pollution resulted from coal burning in China and reducing the dependence of the country on imported petroleum.
At customer demand, Wison can build combined coal chemical plants in the vicinity of downstream enterprises, to supply such chemical raw materials as carbon monoxide, ethanol, hydrogen, syngas and sulfur in high quality to downstream enterprises in the form of close cooperation, with coal as the feedstock and using the clean coal production technologies.
The phase I project of the combined coal chemical plant built by Wison in Nanjing Chemical Industry Park was put into commercial operation in the first half of 2007, and it consists of the coal gasification plant for 87,000cu.m./h syngas, a 300,000t/a carbon monoxide cryogenic separation plant, a 300,000t/a methanol synthesizing and rectification plant and a 15,000t/a sulfur recovery plant. This combined plant also includes huge utilities and auxiliary facilities such as water and power supply, gas and air supply, power generation with recovered heat, enclosed storage of raw coal, and dedicated railway and highway transport lines. At present, Wison has signed long-term mutual products supply contracts with the such companies in the park: American Celanese and APCI, BASF-YPC Co., Ltd., Ling Tian (Nanjing) Fine Chemical Corporation (a joint venture of MGC and ITOCHU). In the meantime, to meet the daily increasing demand for chemical feedstock gases in the park, the Phase II project has been completed and will feed and start up in September 2009, the production capacity will be increased by 300,000t/a carbon monoxide, 21000Nm3/h hydrogen and 11000Nm3/h syngas. After just a short period of two years, Wison (Nanjing) Combined Coal Chemical Plant is now a leading plant in the complementary industrial chain for 'optimized resources configuration and sharing benefit in cooperation' and a model to implement 'recycling economy' operations in Nanjing Chemical Industry Park.
The combined coal chemical plant of Wison is based on the most advanced process flow and equipment in the world adopted in large amount, and has achieved steady operation at high load, at a level rarely seen among similar plants. In 2008, the average load rate of this combined plant in Nanjing was 106%, with operation availability over 97%. More than that, this combined plant also features low consumption and high efficiency, with the water recycling rate and multiple utilization of wastes far better than those in similar plants both at home and overseas. Wison has also built the generator set by using recovered steam, to generate over half of its own power demand. This project has been determined as one for 'comprehensive utilization of resources encouraged by the state', and passed the inspection and examination by the energy-saving project examination group mandated by the State Ministry of Finance, meeting the awarding qualification as a project for energy-saving and emission reduction set forth by the National Development and Reform Commission.
