Wison’s Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Granted AiP by ABS

Release time:2022-01-12

Wison Offshore and Marine (WOM) has obtained the Approval in Principle (AiP) from ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) for the Extended FEED design on its Standardized 3.5 MTPA FLNG (Floating Liquefied Natural Gas).

Based on the world's first barge-based FLNG track record, WOM has developed Standardized 3.5 MTPA FLNG through the standardization design of Topside modules, LNG tank, and hull by applying patented NGL gas processing and feed gas compression technology, this has greatly enhanced the flexibility in the applications and operations of FLNG with the high LPG recovery rate. With the efficient SMR technology, an aero–derived gas turbine and a waste heat recovery unit, the liquefaction process has a much-lowered carbon emissions, making the FLNG unit more environmentally friendly. WOM’s continued efforts of standardization have resulted in a shortened engineering schedule by about 40%. The control system on the FLNG is highly automated, which makes it possible to reduce the number of operation crew, which can be a benefit to the operators in lowering the operation and maintenance costs (OPEX).

With the two world-class fabrication yards in Nantong and Zhoushan, WOM is able to simultaneously build the LNG tanks, the hull, and the topside modules. WOM has an integrated, experienced strong project team that ensures on-time cost-effective delivery of a FLNG EPC contract. Meanwhile, WOM maintains a good cooperative relationship with many partners, and can potentially plan the gas trials of the FLNG facility to be conducted in close proximity to WOM construction yard prior to Sail-Away, so that the FLNG may start the production very quickly after its installation at the site. This will greatly minimize the risks and costs of onsite commissioning and make a fast start-up phase therefore maximize client’s return on the investment.

Sean Bond, ABS Director, Global Gas Solutions, said: “As the preferred classification society for the global offshore and energy industries, ABS used its rich industry experience and knowledge to support WOM with this important floating liquefied natural gas solution."

Wison Offshore & Marine, General Manager of FLNG Division, Mr. Jiang Hao said, “Thanks for ABS’s support in this project. WOM continues to optimize and standardize FLNG design, which would significantly improve the production efficiency and effectively reduce the carbon emissions in the production process. In the field of FLOATING LIQUEFIED natural gas, WOM has been continuously accumulating technical experience, integrating internal and external resources. We are committed to providing low-cost FLNG solutions that can be delivered with a short period of time. In the future, we will continue working with our partners in innovating technologies and creating more values to our clients.”
